If on a winter’s night a traveller | Italo Calvino

I adored this book beyond what mere words can express. An absolute joy. Stories within stories within stories, with You the Reader as a key character throughout, trying to make sense of it all, in a joyful metaphysical mind-bending whirl through the possibilities of fiction. There’s no plot to describe – they are numerous – nor main characters (apart from You), it’s all a game, a hall of mirrors, a book about reading about reading about reading. Literary MDMA. Pure genius.
