Crampton Hodnet | Barbara Pym

My first Pym and I want more. Wonderfully evocative of provincial spinsterdom in dank old houses (strong relate), Lyons tea shops, and gossipy mid-century suburbia. The contrast between the physical and intellectual freedom available to men as opposed to the domestic ennui and sexual hazards faced by women is a striking, albeit subtle subtext. Quietly witty, wry, sad, funny, timeless.
